where all parts of you are welcome

Integrative and Holistic Psychotherapy

Welcome! I’m Carly and I help people on their journey towards holistic healing from anxiety, trauma, and burnout.

What if both mental wellness and mental distress are experiences along a spectrum and this is part of what makes us human? You are not alone as we all travel these experiences that make up our mental health, both in times of flourishing and times of challenge.

Reasons for seeking support vary, although daily distress in its subtle or obvious forms can create feelings of anxiety, overwhelm, depletion, or at times a sense of shut down. As our bodies respond to this distress it can result in feeling stuck, alone, disconnected from self, disconnected from satisfying relationships with others, or a sense that things might never change.

We all deserve a place to talk with someone who we know will not judge or shame us, but instead walk along side us, holding hope and strength until we we can hold it ourselves.

Carly Dosh Embodied Living Therapy

It’s important to find a therapist that’s a good fit. I would love to talk with you!

I offer approaches to therapy that are dynamic and relational in nature. Honoring that our brain-body systems are wired for social connection. This includes integrating a variety of modalities and perspectives, including bringing awareness to the unconscious daily activity of our autonomic nervous system and how these bodily states impact our thoughts and emotions. I incorporate IFS parts work as a unique approach to becoming acquainted with and understanding our internal world. Our work together will be collaborative, experiential, and adaptable based on your needs.

I hold a graduate degree in social work from San Diego State University with an emphasis on direct clinical practice. People are often curious about the path to becoming a therapist which includes pursuing licensure and completing 3,200 supervised hours and a national board exam. I have been in practice for over 10 years and in addition to my formal education I have completed several courses/certifications some of which include trauma counseling, internal family systems, grief work, and the theory and practice of embodiment.

Have you been in therapy before and are looking to go deeper? Sometimes we are stuck in a pattern where therapy becomes a narrative of what we did the week before and we find ourselves wanting more than someone to listen to us.

Are you wanting more feedback, support to stay with physical sensation, and a gentle leader to guide you as you explore experiences, triggers, and ways of showing up in the world? Are you looking for new tools to facilitate growth, healing, and change in your life?

Are you curious about some of the physical symptoms you have been having? Often times internal distress can manifest in the body and you may experience muscle tension, headaches or migraines, stomach or other GI pain, difficulty sleeping, difficulty concentrating, general fatigue, and other chronic pain.

“There is more wisdom in your body than in your deepest philosophy”

Common themes and topics to explore

Anxiety

Anxiety is a common and often adaptive response to stress. However, when our bodies and nervous systems live in a state of constant mobilization we begin experiencing the physical, emotional and cognitive effects (ie: racing heart, sweaty palms, excessive worrying, intrusive thoughts, inability to relax, or feeling irritable or tense).

Depression

From a trauma perspective depression is often the result of a nervous system state or ongoing shut down response that we move into after the body has been overwhelmed or stuck in a flight/flight/freeze  response for too long.

Feeling Stuck

Chronic dysregulation or states of overwhelm can lead to feeling stuck or general decision fatigue and fogginess. You want to take action but instead you find yourself doing nothing at all or mindlessly scrolling on your phone. Freeze is a common response to stress along with fight or flight.

Self compassion

Having compassion for the strategies used to stay safe and seek connection. Noticing when these ways of showing up in the world may no longer be serving us. Recognizing and befriending our inner critic.

Stress & Trauma

Stress is a natural response to experiencing a stressor and is accompanied by an activation of the mind-body system. What is considered stressful is unique to each person. A stressful event can become a trauma when we feel overwhelmed and powerless. Trauma is often defined by how we experience an event and not by the event itself.
